Sushi Sushi Bang! Bang!

Sushi Sushi Bang! Bang! was a fun and exciting slot game that I worked on while at Everi. It was heavily inspired by cartoons, toys, and Japanese pop culture. I had a lot of fun being given significant creative freedom to create all of the art and animation for this colorful game.
The base game featured multiple sushi characters, often designed with silly interpretations of their names (like the spider roll!), as well as fun side characters such as the sushi boat sailors.
Almost all of Everi video slot machines have a feature where little particles pop out and follow your finger around when you touch the screen, just as a fun little interaction. Usually sparkles or stars or something but for this game I made small sushi and pieces of rice come out as well as these little chomping faces trying to eat the sushi. As a little easter egg, if you held your finger down long enough, an alien head would appear!
The most robust bonus feature in the game was just called the Sushi Bonus and featured a large array of mystery spots that would reveal different sushi restaurant food and drink items. The player can pick until they run out of picks and could even score bonus points depending on certain combinations they would find. The combos would be announced with fun animated banners that popped up.
These little images were stickers that would be put around the prize meter at the end of the bonus to remind the player of all the combinations they found. It was a small detail but one of my favorite things to create for this project.
The Monster Chomp Bonus would interrupt play by having a giant monster emerge from the bottom of the screen to eat all of the sushi characters on screen. For each sushi it ate the player would be awarded increasingly better prizes. There were four possible monsters that could show up but the Lobsterclops was definitely my favorite.
The last of the bonuses had my favorite sushi, the wasabi cowboy! In the Wasabi Wild Burst anytime a wasabi symbol landed on the reels it would explode into blocks of four wilds. If they overlapped the wilds could be upgraded to double pays.
As I mentioned earlier, there are a few easter eggs in this game! Here are two little details that I really liked. The crab would walk along the bottom of the screen unless the player touched him, then he'd panic and scamper away. Also on the left of the screen was a small lucky maneki-neko cat, if the player poked it enough it would have numerous different reactions.
